Definition
A mobile security patrol is a licensed security officer in a marked vehicle who visits your site at set or random times, checks that it is secure and reports what they found. One officer covers several sites on a patrol run, so you pay per visit rather than per hour.
Mobile patrol: also called a security patrol, random patrol or patrol service.
What you get
Every visit includes a perimeter check, tested doors and gates, a secure-and-respond step and a photo report. Internal checks and lock-up are included when you book them.
Fence line, gates and yard walked or driven, every visit.
Every access point on your checklist is tried and logged.
With keys held by us, the officer checks inside: doors, alarms and lights.
Sites locked at close and opened for early staff, if you book it.
Faulty lights, set alarms and running plant noted and reported.
Water leaks, damage and safety hazards photographed and reported.
Arrival time, checks and photos emailed after every visit.
Our 24/7 control room tracks every visit and can send help.
Types
Six types, from random overnight patrols to keyholding and construction site visits. Most sites combine two or three of them.
Unpredictable visits between close and open. Best for yards, warehouses and closed sites.
An officer locks the site at close and opens it for staff in the morning.
An officer is sent when your alarm is confirmed, day or night.
We hold your keys, so officers check inside without calling you out.
After-hours and weekend visits for plant, materials and site fencing.
Common areas, car parks and bin rooms checked and locked.
How it works
Each visit follows the same five steps: log in, check the perimeter, check inside if we hold keys, secure anything open, then report.
The officer arrives at a random time and logs the visit with the control room.
Fences, gates, the yard and parked vehicles are checked.
If we hold keys: doors, alarms, lights and plant are checked inside.
Anything open is secured. Any incident is handled and escalated.
Arrival time, checks, findings and photos are emailed to you.
Is it right for you?
Mobile patrols suit sites that are closed or quiet for long periods. They are the wrong choice when someone needs to be on site all the time.
Pricing
Mobile patrols are priced per visit, so they cost less than a static guard. The price depends on six factors, and every quote is fixed and in writing after a free site assessment.
| Factor | How it changes the price |
|---|---|
| Visits per night | More visits cost more; random and set times cost the same |
| Site size and checkpoints | Larger sites with more checkpoints take longer per visit |
| Internal checks and keyholding | Checking inside adds time and needs keys held by us |
| Alarm response | Included in a package or charged per attendance |
| Weekends and public holidays | Award penalty rates apply to these nights |
| Contract length | Longer agreements usually lower the rate |

Compare
Mobile patrols give regular, unpredictable checks at the lowest cost. Static guards give constant presence. CCTV monitoring watches live between visits.
| Factor | Mobile patrols | Static guard | Remote CCTV monitoring |
|---|---|---|---|
| Presence | Short visits, several a night | The whole shift | Cameras watched live |
| Response to an incident | At the next visit, or sent on an alarm | Immediate, on site | Operator acts and sends a patrol |
| Relative cost | Lower: paid per visit | Higher: paid per hour | Low to medium: per camera |
| Best for | Quiet, closed or empty sites | Busy or high-risk sites | Sites with good cameras |
| Reporting | A report after every visit | A log for the whole shift | Event clips and logs |
Reporting
Every shift report records who was on site, when each patrol check happened, any incidents and photos. It reaches your inbox the same day.
Licensing explained
Victoria Police licenses both security businesses and individual security officers under the Private Security Act 2004. A business licence does not cover its staff: each officer needs their own licence.
Reviews
Facility, site and strata managers across Melbourne on working with Bluestone.
They picked up at 2 am, had a patrol on site in good time and sent photos before I was even out of bed.
The same two officers every weekend. They know our site better than some of our staff do.
Clear quote, no surprises on the invoice, and a report after every shift. That is all I wanted.

How it works
Security cover starts in four steps: a call, a free site assessment, a fixed written quote and the first shift with a named supervisor.
A licensed operator in our Port Melbourne control room answers, day or night.
A supervisor walks your site, notes the risks and asks how the site runs.
You get a written quote and site instructions before anything starts.
A named supervisor, officers who know your site and a report after every shift.
FAQ
Short answers to the questions we hear most, each in two or three sentences.
It depends on risk, site size and incident history. A site assessment sets the number, and you can add or reduce visits as the reports show what is needed.
Yes, unless you ask for set times. Random times stop anyone watching your site from learning when the officer will come.
Yes, if we hold your keys under our keyholding service. The officer can then check doors, alarms and lights inside.
An email report with the arrival time, every check made, anything found and photos, sent straight after the visit.
Alarm response is an add-on. With it, the control room sends the nearest patrol officer whenever your alarm is confirmed.
