Hiring

How does Bluestone hire and vet officers?

Six checks before anyone works a shift: licence, National Police Check, references, interview, induction and a supervised first shift on each site.

  4. Interview and scenario test

Real incidents from our sites, answered on the spot.

  5. Induction

Our standards, reporting and radio procedures, before the first shift.

  6. Site training

A supervised shift at each new site before working alone.

Training

What training does every officer complete?

Licensing explained

How is private security licensed in Victoria?

Victoria Police licenses both security businesses and individual security officers under the Private Security Act 2004. A business licence does not cover its staff: each officer needs their own licence.

ASIAL membership
[member no.]

How to check any security company

  1. Ask for the business licence number
  2. Search it on the Victoria Police public register
  3. Ask for the licence numbers of the officers on your site
  4. Ask for a certificate of currency for their insurance

Standards

What standards does every Bluestone officer work to?

Six rules in our code of conduct, signed by every officer at induction and checked by supervisors on every shift.

  1. Arrive early, in full uniform, with a charged radio

  2. Follow the site instructions exactly, and ask when unsure

  3. Report everything, including what went right

  4. Treat everyone on site with respect

  5. Never leave a post until relieved

  6. Escalate early: call the supervisor, then the client

FAQ

What do Melbourne businesses ask before hiring security?

Short answers to the questions we hear most, each in two or three sentences.

Are all Bluestone officers licensed?

Yes. Every officer holds a current Victoria Police private security licence for the work they do, checked before their first shift and at every renewal.

Are officers police checked?

Yes. Every officer needs a current National Police Certificate and two checked work references before they are rostered.

Will the same officers work at my site?

We keep a small regular team on each site so officers learn it well. Cover for leave comes from officers already inducted to your site.

Can I meet my supervisor before cover starts?

Yes. Your supervisor walks the site with you at the site assessment and is your contact from the first shift.

Do you use subcontractors?

Bluestone rosters its own employed officers. [Confirm this answer, or explain when and how subcontractors are used.]
